Kai Kroeger Named to Ray’s 8 for Week 4 Performance vs Akron
University of South Carolina punter Kai Kroeger has been selected as one of “Ray’s 8” for his performance in the Gamecocks’ 50-7 win over Akron, the Ray Guy Award committee announced today.
Kroeger, a fifth-year senior from Lake Forest, Ill., punted four times for a 53.2-yard average against the Zips. He placed two of his four punts inside the 20. Akron did not return a punt, so Kroeger’s net average was also 53.2 yards.
Kroeger boomed a 75-yard punt in the third quarter that was downed at the Akron 1-yard line. It was his longest punt of the season, second longest of his career and fourth of 70+ yards in his career. The 75-yard punt is the third-longest registered in FBS play this season.
Kroeger also scored on a two-point conversion in the first quarter to put the Gamecocks on top, 15-0.
Kroeger, a five-time SEC Special Teams Player of the Week during his Gamecock career, was a first-team All-SEC selection and All-American in 2022.
