Verzyl Earns Second SEC Diver of the Week Award

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina junior Sophie Verzyl picked up her second consecutive SEC Female Diver of the Week award, announced by the league office today. This marks the fifth time she has won the award in her career.

The Gamecocks competed in two meets last weekend, facing No. 16 Duke on Friday and No. 21 University of North Carolina on Saturday. Verzyl competed in the 1- and 3-meter at both events, claiming three total wins. The junior started off the weekend on a high note, setting a new pool record at Duke on the 3-meter after winning the event with a score of 390.53. She placed second in the 1-meter with 321.90 points, helping the team secure a dominant win over the Blue Devils. The South Carolina native swept her competitions the following day at UNC, winning the 1-meter with 336.30 points and the 3-meter with 364.43. Verzyl’s 3-meter win at North Carolina marked her third consecutive of the season.

The Gamecocks are back at the Carolina Natatorium on Fri., Nov. 8, hosting Queens University of Charlotte for a dual meet at 2:00 p.m. On the same day, the divers will travel to the UNC Wilmington for a 2:00 p.m. meet.
