Gamecocks Earn CSCAA Men’s National Open Water Title, Women’s Team Takes Second

MIAMI, Fla. – Six Gamecocks represented the Garnet & Black at the 2024 CSCAA College National Open Water Championships on Sunday morning. The athletes competed in a 5k race in Biscayne Bay, Florida against nearly 240 athletes from NCAA Division I, II and III programs across the country.

The South Carolina men’s team, consisting of Connor Fry, Ryan Turner and Umut Yildirim, were named the Men’s National Open Water Team Champions following their performances. Combined the three swam a time of 3:03.58, the fastest in the 11 team field. Connor Fry was the top finisher of the three, placing third overall after swimming a 1:01.10. Turner placed ninth after clocking a 1:01.20 while Yildirim finished not too far behind him in 13th with a time of 1:01.25.

The women’s team, which included Nora Fluck, Emma Reiser and Sianna Savarda, were the Women’s Team National Runner-Ups out of 19 teams after the three swam a combined 3:07.20. The three Gamecocks were led by Fluck, who placed fourth overall with a time of 1:02.00. Savarda took ninth place with a 1:02.32 while Reiser placed 18th in a field of 110 after swimming a 1:02.45.

The Gamecocks are back in action on January 4th, travelling to Blacksburg, Virginia for a dual meet against Virginia Tech.
