Gamecocks Complete Cavalier Invite

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – South Carolina swimming wrapped up three days of action at the Cavalier Invite, with several Gamecocks wrapping up their seasons after posting personal bests.

Senior Annaliese Streeter led the team with an impressive performance, swimming personal bests in all three events. She swam a 1:01.58 in the 100 breaststroke for seventh place, tying with teammate Carolina Kudela. Streeter swam a 2:12.12 in the 200 breast which had her in first place going into finals. She followed up with an NCAA B cut and best time in the evening session, clocking a 2:11.92 to narrowly place second by just over half a second. The Michigan native picked up her third best time of the weekend in the 200 IM, clocking a 1:58.32 in finals.

MaKayla Ciancanelli was one of two Gamecocks to win an event throughout the meet, taking first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:50.08. Additionally, she clocked a personal best in the 1650, swimming a 16:57.85. In the same event Grace Daniels also recorded a best time, taking second with a 16:45.66.

Megan Maholic swam an NCAA B cut and personal best in the 100 back, clocking a 53.23. The junior swam a best time in the 100 fly as well, touching fourth in a 54.76. In her other two events she earned personal bests.

Emily Eaton broke 23 seconds in the 50 free for the first time in her career, clocking a 22.85 in prelims. She won the event overall after taking first in finals, adding a tenth to her morning swim time. The sophomore also swam best times in the 100 freestyle (50.25) and 100 fly (56.05).

The SEC Championships are next up on deck for the Gamecocks, taking place from Feb. 17-22 at the Gabrielsen Natatorium on Georgia’s campus.
