
Track & Field Heads to Swamp for Pepsi Florida Relays
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (April 3, 2025) – South Carolina Track & Field is headed to enemy territory this weekend in Gainesville, Fla. to take part in the 2025 Pepsi Florida Relays.

Meet Information
The two-day meet will begin on Friday, April 4 at James G. Pressly Stadium beginning with high school competition at 8 a.m. The first collegiate event on Friday will be the women’s hammer at 11 a.m., while the women’s 4×800 meter relay will be the first event on the track at noon. The Gamecocks are lined up to compete in 10 events on the opening day, beginning with the women’s 4×100 meter relay at 2:30 p.m. and the women’s high jump at 2:30 p.m. Day two will be held on Saturday, April 5 beginning at 9 a.m. The first event for Carolina on Saturday is slated to be at noon with the men’s high jump and the women’s 100-meter hurdle prelims.
Season Debut
Nine more Gamecocks will be making their debuts this weekend in Gainesville. Among the nine are five sprinters: Zaya Akins, Jasauna Dennis, JaMeesia Ford, Anthony Greenhow and Jayla Jamison. Most recently, Dennis is coming off a silver medal at the World Indoor Championships as he led Jamaica to a runner-up finish in the 4×400 meter relay. The other Gamecocks making their outdoor season debut will be: Aidan Hatton, CJ Licata, Cheyla Scott and Dylan Targgart.
Just Getting Started
The Gamecocks have competed in just two meets thus far in the outdoor season but have recorded 12 new top 10 program marks. The distance squad recorded seven of those marks in the last meet at the Raleigh Relays, including a pair of new program records. Rogerio Amaral posted a new program record in the 10K, running 28:23.41, while Salma Elbadra set a new women’s 1500m program record after crossing the line in 4:06.90.
Regional Marks
With the focus on outdoor season now, the landscape of postseason competition switches from top 16 nationally to top 48 regionally to qualify for the NCAA East Regional and a chance at the NCAA Outdoor Championship. The Gamecocks currently have 19 marks inside the top 48 in the East Region, led by Salma Elbadra on the women’s side who is third in the 1500m (4:06.90) and Nate Figgers who ranks third in the men’s high jump with a mark of 2.16m (7-1). In addition, South Carolina has six marks inside the top 10 in the regional rankings.
