South Carolina Teams Up with Curing Kids Cancer for First & Gold Campaign
Supporting Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
COLUMBIA, S.C. (September 22, 2025) — As part of a nationwide effort to tackle pediatric cancer, South Carolina is once again teaming up with Curing Kids Cancer (CKC) for the 2025 First & Gold Campaign, now in its 13th year. Throughout the month of September, football teams across the state will rally to raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer research.
The First & Gold Childhood Cancer Awareness Game will take place on Saturday, September 27, when the University of South Carolina Gamecocks Football takes on the University of Kentucky. The Gamecocks will join youth, high school, and other college teams across the country in dedicating a home game to the fight against childhood cancer. Participating teams will help raise awareness by wearing special First & Gold gear and spreading the message of hope and support for families affected by pediatric cancer.
“We are thrilled to see South Carolina teams continue to come together to make a difference in the lives of children battling cancer,” said Gráinne Owen, President and Co-Founder of CKC. “This year is especially meaningful as we celebrate our 20th anniversary and the launch of a historic endowment—Killian’s Hope for a United South Carolina—in partnership with Prisma Health and the USC College of Pharmacy. The First & Gold Campaign not only raises awareness for pediatric cancer but also unites communities to support a cause that touches so many lives.”
South Carolina’s involvement in the First & Gold Campaign will directly benefit Curing Kids Cancer, a nonprofit organization dedicated to funding innovative pediatric cancer research and providing support for families facing this devastating disease.
