Swimming and Diving Opens Season at Home vs. Georgia

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina swimming and diving begins its 2025-26 campaign Wed., Oct. 8, at Carolina Natatorium, as they host SEC opponent Georgia. The dual meet will kick off at 3 p.m. with free admission. Live results will be available on the subscription-based Meet Mobile platform.

The Gamecocks welcome back four individual NCAA qualifiers from last season on the women’s side, including seniors Breckin Gormley and Amy Riordan, junior Delaney Franklin and sophomore Nora Fluck.

Gormley qualified for her first NCAA Championship last season in two events (500 freestyle and 200 butterfly). She claimed the school record in the 500 freestyle (4:39.03) at last year’s SEC Championships. Riordan broke a pair of school records in the 200 (1:51.230) and 100 (51.78) backstroke at the NCAA Championships, earning an All-American Honorable Mention title for the second consecutive season.

Franklin notched personal bests at the SEC Championships, placing her in the top 15 for all three events that she swam (200 breaststroke, 200 individual medley and 400 individual medley). She swam the same events at the NCAA Championships. The sophomore, Fluck, posted the second-fastest time in school history in the 500 (4:40.68) behind Gormley. She also holds the second-fastest times in school history in the 1000 freestyle (9:46.18) and 1650 freestyle (16:06.49).

Junior Connor Fry headlines the men’s team, coming off his second consecutive NCAA qualifying season. He is joined by sophomore Ryan Turner, who was once named SEC Freshman of the Week last season.

The women’s diving corps welcomes back SEC Champion, Sophie Verzyl, who took gold in the 3-meter and silver in the 1-meter at the SEC Championships. Verzyl went undefeated in dual meets last season, tallying eight victories and was named SEC Diver of the Week six times, which marked the most out of all other divers in the conference.

Alongside Riordan, Verzyl took home All-American Honorable Mention honors in the 1-meter and 3-meter after placing ninth and 11th, respectively.

Max Spencer leads the men on the diving side, following his All-American Honorable Mention performance at NCAAs in the platform event. Spencer also qualified for the 2025 SEC Championships, where he scored in all three of his events, placing seventh on platform and 10th in the 3-meter.

Georgia enters the 2025-26 season ranked among the top 15 in the country (men/ninth, women/13th). The men’s team placed seventh at the 2025 NCAA Championships, its highest finish since 2021. They paired that with a third-place finish at the SEC Championships alongside the women who placed fourth, just one spot ahead of the Gamecock women. The Georgia women’s team grabbed 16th at the NCAA Championships.
