Gamecocks Welcome Tar Heels Friday

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina swimming and diving hosts their second home meet of the season on Friday at the Carolina Natatorium, facing the North Carolina Tar Heels. Events will kick off at 3 p.m. and live results will be available on the subscription-based Meet Mobile platform.

The No. 17 Gamecock women are coming off their third consecutive win after defeating Florida State. The men’s team picked up 16 podium finishes in a close contest with the Seminoles.

In Tallahassee, sophomore Nora Fluck reset her own 1000 freestyle school record in a time of 9:43.64 while picking up the first-place win.

Senior Amy Riordan picked up the win in both the 100 backstroke (52.50) and 100 freestyle (49.19). Junior Delaney Franklin swept both her events, taking first in the 200 backstroke (2:10.92) and 200 IM (2:00.23). The Gamecock women secured six additional individual event wins, bringing their total to 11.

On the men’s side, freshman Einar Agustsson picked up his first collegiate win in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 52.91 for the sixth-fastest time in program history. He also grabbed in the win in the 200 breaststroke with a 1:56.21, the fifth-fastest in the program.

The men swept the diving events with senior Charley Bayer taking first in the 3-meter with a score of 333.38 and sophomore Max Spencer placing first in the 1-meter with a score of 376.50.

The Tar Heels come to Columbia ranked on both sides with the No. 19 men’s team and No. 14 women’s team. The UNC women come in with two dual losses to No. 1 Virginia and No. 19 Duke, while the men have just one, a one-point loss to No. 13 Virginia.
