South Carolina Women Claim Gamecock Invitational Title, Men Finish Third
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina women claimed the top spot in the final night of the Gamecock Invitational on Friday inside the Carolina Natatorium. The women finished with eight individual event wins, three relay wins, two pool records and a school record. The men had five individual event wins, a relay win and two pool records from Einar Agustsson and Pierre Largeron.
The Gamecock women won the invitational with 1506.5 points. The men scored 1055.5 points for a third-place finish.
WOMEN
- Delaney Franklin started the night off with a win in the 200 IM in a time of 1:57.15, for her second individual win of the invite.
- Dylan Scholes took second with a 49.64 in the 100 freestyle.
- Jordan Agliano completed the sweep in the butterfly events with a win in the 200 butterfly, clocking at 1:55.86.
- Amy Riordan picked up her second event win of the weekend in the 200 back in a 1:52.59.
- The Gamecock women closed out the meet with a win in the 400 free relay from the team of Riordan, Scholes, Samantha Chan and Ellery Ottem, clocking a time of 3:16.83.
MEN
- Gage Hulbert finished third in the 200 butterfly, touching in 1:44.63.
- Merlin Fincher went 1:41.79 in the 200 backstroke for second.
- The men took second in the 400 medley relay with the team of Ryan Hufford, Bexon Harrison, Quinn Buck and Eldor Usmonov in a time of 2:53.72.
Both teams will return back to action against Queens on Jan. 3 in Charlotte.
