Swimming Travels to Charlotte to Take on Queens Saturday
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina swimming returns to action Saturday, traveling to Charlotte, N.C., to face Queens in the first dual meet of the new year. Competition will begin at 11 a.m. and will only feature swimming events.
In the latest CSCAA Division I poll, the Gamecock women are ranked 17th nationally and enter the meet with an unblemished 4-0 record. The men’s team sits at 0-3 on the season after a third-place finish at the Gamecock Invitational.
Amy Riordan continues to rank among the nation’s top performers, sitting seventh in the SEC in the 100-yard backstroke, second in the 200-yard backstroke and 10th in the 200-yard freestyle. Nora Fluck also holds a top-10 conference mark, ranking eighth in the 1,000-yard freestyle, while Delaney Franklin checks in at 13th in the SEC in the 200-yard breaststroke.
On the men’s side, Connor Fry ranks sixth in the conference in the 1,650-yard freestyle following a dominant victory at the Gamecock Invitational. Eldor Usmonov also stands among the league’s top competitors, ranking inside the top 15 in the 100-yard butterfly.
The Gamecocks return to the Carolina Natatorium on Saturday, Jan. 10, to host Virginia Tech in the final home meet of the season. Events begin at 10 a.m., with a senior day celebration to follow.
