Verzyl Named Female Diver of the Meet, No. 18 Gamecock Women Finish Sixth

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The South Carolina swimming and diving program completed the final day of the 2026 SEC Championships on Saturday night inside the Allen Jones Aquatic Center.

Sophie Verzyl was named the Female Diver of the Meet after sweeping the springboard events and finishing 11th in the platform dive. Verzyl is now a three-time SEC Champion. The No. 18 South Carolina women’s team finished sixth overall, while the men finished 11th. Full meet results can be found here.

DAY SIX

  • Amy Riordan captured fourth place in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:52.60 in her final SEC Championship final as a Gamecock. Jordan Agliano finished 12th with a time of 1:54.35.
  • Merlin Ficher represented the men’s team in the bonus final, finishing 18th with a time of 1:41.76.
  • Meaghan Harnish turned in a 14th-place finish with a time of 1:59.83. Delaney Franklin followed close behind in 15th with a time of 2:00.78.
  • In the final event of the night, the women’s 400 freestyle relay team of Riordan, Dylan Scholes, Ellery Ottem and Kara West swam a 3:16.04, taking home 10th place.
  • On the men’s side, the quartet featuring Quinn Buck, Eldor Usmonov, Pierre Largeron and Ryan Hufford finished 10th with a time of 2:54.52.
  • After an impressive prelims performance in the platform dive, Sophie Verzyl secured a spot in the consolation final, where she finished 11th overall with a score of 236.85.
  • During the morning session, Ficher rounded out the Gamecock finalists, earning a spot in the 200 backstroke bonus final after recording a time of 1:42.60.
  • Riordan highlighted the final prelims session, qualifying for the championship final in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:52.60.
  • Agliano qualified for the consolation final after notching a time of 1:54.86.
  • Franklin and Harnish qualified for the consolation final of the 200 individual medley with times of 1:59.07 and 1:59.38, respectively.
