Mike Davis Bio

Most experienced running back in the program, figures to get the bulk of the carries in 2008… led the team in rushing in 2005 and has been second on the squad in each of the past two seasons… has played in 36 games over the past three seasons, making 14 starts… has rushed for 1,658 career yards, which ranks 18th on the Gamecock career rushing list… has averaged 4.6 yards per carry and has scored 16 rushing touchdowns, which ties him with Stanley Pritchett and Derek Watson for 11th on the USC all-time list… has three career 100-yard rushing games… has also caught 49 passes for 454 yards in his career.

2007: Carried 114 times for 518 yards and five touchdowns… averaged 4.5 yards per carry… rushed for a team-high 94 yards in the season opener against Louisiana-Lafayette… rushed for 102 yards in the win over South Carolina State, his third career 100-yard rushing game… also had the first receiving touchdown of his career in that contest… scored his first rushing touchdown of the season against LSU, going in from one-yard out to give the Gamecocks an early 7-0 advantage… caught three passes in that contest for a team-high 77 yards… tied the school record with three rushing touchdowns against Mississippi State… scored on a three-yard run against Kentucky… combined for 35 carries in back-to-back games against Mississippi State (18) and Kentucky (17), then logged just 35 carries through the final six contests… sat out the spring after undergoing right knee surgery.

2006: Played in 12 of 13 games, making five starts… was second on the team with 100 carries for 474 yards, averaging 4.7 yards per carry… logged six rushing touchdowns… caught 11 passes for 94 yards… missed the first several days of fall camp with an infection in his left foot… gained just 36 yards through the first three games before breaking loose for 92 yards and a TD in the win over FAU… best game of the season came when he carried 16 times for 94 yards and two touchdowns at Florida… missed the Middle Tennessee game… returned for the Clemson game and rushed a dozen times for 69 yards and two scores… carried 14 times for 72 yards in the Liberty Bowl win over Houston, including a season-long 25-yard burst… four of his six TDs came in his last three games… came off an excellent spring in which he earned the Outstanding Running Back Award and was the Joe Morrison Award winner as the Offensive Player of the Spring.

2005: Made nine starts as a true freshman… was the team[apos]s leading rusher with 146 carries for 666 yards and five TDs… logged his first 100-yard rushing game in the regular-season finale against Clemson with a 111-yard effort, then topped that with a career-best 125 yards and two scores in the Independence Bowl against Missouri… gained 413 yards over the final four games after logging 253 yards in the first eight contests… caught 15 passes for 136 yards, including a 64-yard reception in the season opener versus UCF… made his first start at Georgia… scored his first touchdown and the Gamecocks[apos] first rushing touchdown of the season against Alabama in the third game… rushed for 89 yards in the win at Arkansas, including a season-best 37-yard tote… carried a season-high 22 times for 88 yards and two TDs against Florida.

HIGH SCHOOL: Graduated from Columbia[apos]s Glenforest High School in 2005 but played his high school football for Columbia High… coached by Kember Amick… totaled 5,517 career rushing yards and scored 68 touchdowns during his career… rushed for 2,226 yards and 27 TDs as a senior and 2,127 yards and 20 scores as a junior… regarded as the top running back prospect in the state and the 11th-best running back in the nation by Scout.com… rated the 22nd-best running back and the 67th prospect overall in the nation by Rivals.com… rated the third best player in the state by SuperPrep… was a four-year starter on the basketball team.
