Shawn Murphy

Fifth-year linebacker who transferred to South Carolina in January of 2025 following a one-year stint at Florida State… has appeared in 34 games over the past four seasons with 67 career tackles… began his career at Alabama where he appeared in 18 games over two seasons.

2025 (Redshirt Junior)
First year at Carolina and his fourth in college football… played in all 12 games making four starts… started each of the first three games at the WILL linebacker position… also started against Ole Miss… credited with 49 tackles including 3.5 tackles for loss… added a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry… recorded multiple tackles in every game, topped by a career-high 12 stops in the win over Coastal Carolina… 2.5 of his 3.5 tackles for loss on the season along with his lone quarterback hurry came against the Chants… had five stops against both Oklahoma and Clemson… served as a team captain against Oklahoma.

2024 (Redshirt Sophomore)
Played in Florida State’s final four games after returning from offseason injury… collected 13 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and recovered a fumble… posted a career high in tackles in each of FSU’s final three games – three at Notre Dame, four vs. Charleston Southern and five in finale versus Florida… fell on a fumble vs. CSU, the first of his career… his 1.5 TFL against the Buccaneers were first of his career.

2023 (Redshirt Freshman)
Saw action in 13 games for SEC champion Crimson Tide in 2023 and tallied three tackles… worked both on defense and on special teams… recorded one tackle in the season opener against Middle Tennessee… totaled two tackles on defense against Chattanooga.

2022 (Freshman)
Appeared in five games as a true freshman for Alabama… recorded two solo stops and one pass breakup… made one tackle in his collegiate debut vs. ULM… also saw regular season action against Vanderbilt, Austin Peay and Auburn… registered one tackle and one pass breakup in Sugar Bowl vs. No. 9 Kansas State… redshirted.

HIGH SCHOOL
Graduated from Unity Reed High School in Manassas, Va. where hw was considered the country’s No. 1 inside linebacker in Class of 2022… coached by Carroll Walker… named the 2021 Dick Butkus High School Linebacker of the Year… selected to Under-Armour All-America Game and All-American Bowl… recorded 113 tackles, 20.0 for loss with 6.0 sacks, and two interceptions his senior season to lead Unity Reed to second round of Virginia Class 6 state playoffs… earned second-team all-state honors as well as Class 6 Region B Defensive Player of the Year while leading team to playoffs in 2019… started as freshman and earned first-team all-district honors with 85 tackles, 29.0 for loss with 5.0 sacks.
