Jarriel King Bio
Big offensive lineman who is in his third season at Carolina… has been used primarily at tackle during his Gamecock career, but has also seen action at guard… has the most starting assignments of any returning offensive player with 19 career starts… 17 of his 19 starts have come at left tackle and the other two at left guard… penciled in as the starting left tackle entering the fall… was the recipient of the Most Improved Offensive Lineman Award during the spring.
2009: Started eight games overall… started the first four and five of the first six games at left tackle… moved to the starting left guard position against Alabama and Vanderbilt… returned to the starting slot at left tackle for the Tennessee contest… overall started six times at left tackle and two at left guard in 2009.
2008: Became a stalwart at the left tackle position… joined the team in the fall and made the transition from a junior college defensive end to offensive tackle… made 11 starts… got the starting nod in game two against Vanderbilt, then regained the starting duties at left tackle and held that position for the remainder of the season.
JUNIOR COLLEGE: Sat out the fall of 2005 before enrolling at Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, Ga., where he was considered a four-star prospect… played for Coach Bert Williams… started on the defensive line as a freshman in 2006 and recorded 23.5 tackles, including 2.5 sacks… ranked as the 40th-best junior college prospect in the nation by Rivals.com… named to the All-Southeast Region team by PrepStar magazine.
HIGH SCHOOL: Graduated from North Charleston (S.C.) High School in 2005 and signed with the Gamecocks, but did not qualify academically… played in the 2004 North-South All-Star game… named to the Class AAA All-Defensive Team and rated the 11th-best player in the state by High School Sports Report… rated the 22nd-best player in the state of South Carolina by PrepStar… named first-team All-Low Country and first-team all-state… was the Charleston Post & Courier Lineman of the Year… one of 50 players nationwide to be named to the ‘Old Spice Red Zone Team,’ listed in USA Today… team captain… region champion in the shot put and MVP on the track team… did not play organized football until his freshman year… recorded 86 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, four forced fumbles and three blocked kicks in 2004… as an offensive lineman in 2004, he was credited with 29 pancake blocks.
