Shaq Wilson, a former standout Gamecock linebacker, is in his first year as assistant director – football player personnel after serving for one season as assistant director – recruiting. He is in his fourth year as a full-time member of the Carolina football staff and in his fifth year overall with the coaching staff. 2017 marks the 10th season in which he has been part of the South Carolina football program as either a player or staff member.
Wilson works with the recruiting staff with a focus on identifying prospective student-athletes for the defensive side of the ball.
Wilson came to South Carolina in 2008 as a linebacker out of First Coast High School in Jacksonville, Fla. A four-year letterwinner (2008-09, 2011-12), Wilson led the Gamecocks in tackles in 2009 and again in 2012. He served as a team captain in his senior season.
Wilson earned his degree in African American studies in 2012. He worked for Carolina Football as a graduate assistant during the 2013 campaign.
In 2014, Wilson moved into a full-time role as the quality control coordinator for the defense. In that position, he assisted the defensive coaches with quality control study of each game and season, including video analysis, charting breakdowns and scouting, and assisted with daily personnel management.
