2016 Fall Academic Honor Roll

Excellent special teams performer who also has seen action in the Carolina secondary at safety… came out of the spring listed atop the depth chart at safety, but will have to fight off several challengers to hold the starting position this fall… former walk-on who was placed on scholarship just prior to the start of the 2017 campaign… has earned a pair of letters.

2017: Outstanding special teams performer who also saw limited action at safety… recognized with both the Unselfish Award and the Tenacity Award for special teams… former wide receiver who was converted full-time to the secondary in the spring… former walk-on who was awarded a scholarship prior to the start of the season… led the team with six special teams tackles and logged a pair of fumble recoveries… also recovered a pair of Carolina fumbles… recovered a fourth-quarter fumble on punt coverage at Missouri to set up Carolina’s final score… recovered a Carolina fumble on a punt return vs. Louisiana Tech, keeping the Gamecocks alive en route to the victory… saw the first defensive action of his career vs. Arkansas and was credited with a pass breakup… notched a two-tackle day in the win over Vanderbilt… recovered a fumble in punt coverage and also saw secondary snaps in the win over Florida… recovered a Gamecock fumble on a punt return vs. Clemson.

2016: Redshirt sophomore who played in every game, primarily on special teams… recorded 10 tackles… moved from wide receiver to defensive back midway through fall preseason camp… made his collegiate debut in the win against Vanderbilt… returned to the wide receiver position prior to the Texas A&M game… saw his first action of the season at receiver against the Aggies and made one catch for 12 yards… notched a pair of special teams tackles in the Tennessee win… made two special teams tackles for the second-straight week in the Missouri win, when he was named Special Teams Player of the Game… caught four passes for 54 yards in the 2016 Garnet & Black Spring game… a member of the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll.

2015: Joined the squad as a walk-on in his first semester in Columbia… redshirted as a redshirt freshman wide receiver… impressed the coaches enough with his athletic ability to be added to the travel roster for a couple of games but did not see any action.

HIGH SCHOOL: Graduated from Warren Township High School in Gurnee, Ill., in 2014… helped the Blue Devils to a 7-4 mark as a senior in 2013… gained a spot on the NIKE regional all-combine team… earned all-conference honors and all-area honorable mention accolades… also played basketball and ran on the track & field team… earned all-state honors as a 23-foot long jumper.

PERSONAL: Javon Charleston was born March 3, 1996… is a sociology major who graduated in May 2018.
