2018 Jim Carlen Co-Special Teams Player of the Spring

Versatile defensive back who can play safety and nickel and could also see spot duty at cornerback… played in 33 contests over the past three seasons making 20 starts with 130 tackles and three picks… graduated in December with a degree in interdisciplinary studies.

2018: Senior safety who started all 12 games in which he appeared… one of three players selected by his peers for the Unselfish Teammate Award for the defense… ranked third on the squad with 72 tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss… ranked 24th in the SEC averaging 6.0 tackles per game… led the team in tackles in three contests – Georgia, Missouri and Clemson… credited with five pass breakups, three of which came against Vanderbilt… collected seven tackles against both Georgia and Kentucky… led team with nine tackles, including 1.0 tackle for loss, against Missouri… had a career day at Ole Miss, with a dozen stops, including 1.0 for loss… tallied double-digit tackles for a second-straight week with 11 at Florida… missed the Chattanooga game due to injury, but returned against Clemson to lead the Gamecocks with 10 tackles… shared Jim Carlen Special Teams Player of the Spring honors with Keisean Nixon.

2017: Hard-hitting defensive back who was credited with 19 tackles in 10 games including a pair of starts… also credited with three pass interceptions, tying for the team lead, two pass breakups and a forced fumble… limited in the season-opener against NC State while recovering from a foot injury… re-aggravated the injury and missed the next three games… logged his first career interception in the victory over Vanderbilt… made his first start of the season versus Georgia and came up with six tackles plus a forced fumble… also had a start against Florida… logged six tackles including a tackle for loss and an end zone interception against Clemson… notched his third pick in the Outback Bowl win over Michigan to seal the victory.

2016: Walk-on defensive back who joined the team just after fall camp got underway… despite his late arrival, made an early impact… played in 11 games, with six starts… notched 39 tackles… made his debut against East Carolina, starting at safety… made six tackles, including five solo stops against the Pirates… forced a fumble in the Missouri win… set a career-high with nine tackles and added a pass breakup against Florida… tallied four tackles in the Western Carolina win… recorded seven tackles against Clemson… had a strong performance in the Birmingham Bowl against USF with six tackles including a half-tackle for loss, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup.

2015: Spent one season at Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College… played defensive back for head coach Aaron Flores… recorded 17 tackles with one interception and three pass breakups… helped the 14th-ranked Red Ravens to an 8-3 mark.

HIGH SCHOOL: Graduated from Newton High School in Covington, Ga. in 2015… helped his team to a 7-5 record in his senior season.
