2021
Indoor: Ran the 800 meters six times for Carolina … Finished sixth at the SEC Championships in the 800 meters, clocking in with a time of 1:50.89 to score at the conference meet … Ran his season’s best time of 1:50.14 in the prelims at the SEC Championships … Won the 800 meters at the USC Indoor Open with a time of 1:51.81 … Had top-five finishes at the Carolina Challenge and the South Carolina Invitational … Did not finish the 800 meters at the Gamecock Opener.
Outdoor: Ran the 800 meters five times for the Gamecocks … Ran at the SEC Championships in the 800 meters and took 25th with a time of 1:53.77 … Was the runner-up at the Gamecock Invitational with a time of 1:53.30 … Ran his season-best time at the UNF Invitational, taking 14th with a time of 1:52.12 … Also finished in the top five oof the 800 meters at the USC Open and Charlotte Invitational.
2020
Indoors: Was one of the Gamecocks top middle-distance runners during the indoor campaign… Competed in eight meets for Carolina, running primarily in the 800m… Had his best finish at the South Carolina Invite, taking third in the 800m in a PR of 1:51.84… Competed at the SEC Championships in the 800m… Ran the 1000m at the Orange and Purple Elite, taking seventh in a time of 2:30.08… Competed in the DMR at the 2020 SEC Champinoships.
Outdoors: Cancelled.
2019
Indoors: Took part in five meets, including four appearances in the 800m… ran a season-best 1:55.49 at the Tiger Paw Invitational… earned top-10 finishes at the Gamecock Inaugural and the USC Indoor Open… ran the 600m at the Orange & Purple Elite, taking sixth with a mark of 1:22.07.
Outdoors: Ran the 800m at six meets, getting progressively better as the season went on… earned a second-place finish at the Buccaneer Invitational… notched additional top-10 finishes at the Black & Gold Challenge, the Spec Towns Invitational and the USC Outdoor Open… posted his best time at the SEC Championships, when he finished 16th with a mark of 1:53.63.
2018
Did not compete.
HIGH SCHOOL
Earned three letters under head coach Derek Gomez at River Bluff High School… Was named MVP of the track & field team in both 2016 and 2017… Finished fourth in the 800m at the 2017 SCHSL 5A state meet to earn All-State recognition.
PERSONAL
Son of Cliff and Mary Newcomb… Chose Carolina because it’s close to home and he loved the beautiful campus… Picked the Gamecocks over College of Charleston and Charleston Southern.
