Billy Anderson

Billy Anderson

Billy Anderson is the director of sport performance for all varsity sports except football at the University of South Carolina. Working almost three decades at Carolina, Anderson oversees an experienced and talented staff of certified strength and conditioning coaches; and he works directly the Baseball, Women’s Golf and Men’s Golf teams. In addition, Anderson is integrally involved in the expanding use of technology and science for the evidence-based training that varsity teams receive. He is also involved in growing partnerships between the Athletics Department and strategic campus research partners.

Anderson is certified by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA). In May of 2010 he was awarded the prestigious title of Master Strength and Conditioning Coach. This honor is given to strength coaches who have been in the field for a minimum of 12 years and represent the highest standards of professionalism, experience and expertise.

Anderson began working at South Carolina in 1992 as a graduate assistant. He was hired as a full-time member of the strength staff in 1994 and has been given increasingly greater responsibilities ever since.

A native of Stratford, Conn., Anderson received his bachelor of science degree in health fitness from Springfield (Mass.) College. While at Springfield, Anderson ran track all four years and until recently was the record holder in the 800 meter run. He was also the junior and senior Athlete of the Year there when his team was the ECAC champions both years. In 1991, Anderson finished eighth in the 800 meter run at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships.

A 1987 graduate of Bunnell High School in Stratford, Conn., Anderson was an All-State performer in football and track. Anderson and his wife, the former Tish Fellers, have two children—son, Kaden Ellis, and a daughter, Ashlyn Paige.
