Schultz Named SEC Diver of the Week
Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina graduate transfer Brooke Schultz has been named SEC Diver of the Week after winning the one-meter, three-meter, and team dive events at the Tennessee Diving Invitational.
Schultz, a native of Fayetteville, Ark., was competeing for the first time in the Garnet and Black. She joined the team at the beginning of January is already making her presence known.
“I was really excited about Brooke’s performance at the Tennessee Invite,” said head diving coach Dale Schultz. “That was her first competition this collegiate year, and we’re really excited about where we are going into the SEC Championships.”
Schultz held steady in first place during all of her dives throughout the competition. She placed first in the preliminary rounds of the one-meter dive with a score of 329.25 and held her ground throughout the final round with a final score of 328.35.
In the three-meter dive event, Schultz also placed first in the preliminary rounds with a score of 347.45 before winning the finals with a 355.00.
In the newly-created team dive event, Schultz joined with freshman Sophie Verzyl and sophomore Abby Gray to take first place. Schultz and Verzyl each performed a one-meter and three-meter dive while Gray performed both of the team’s platform dives. The Gamecock trio won the event with a score of 324.25.
South Carolina swimming and diving will be back in action next on Sat., Jan. 15, at the Carolina Natatorium for its dual versus UN Wilmington at 10 a.m.
