COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina junior running back Dalton Wilson earned Capital One Academic All-District Four accolades today, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Wilson, a finance and business economics major, moves onto the national ballot, which is scheduled for release on Thurs., Dec. 8.
The Williston, S.C., fullback has started five games and played in all nine for the Gamecocks. While he has not recorded a carry or catch, Wilson’s been instrumental in the Gamecock offense this season, serving as a lead blocker for the South Carolina running attack which ranks third in the SEC in rushing offense. Also seeing time on special teams, Wilson is credited with two tackles this year.
Wilson, along with T.J. Johnson and Adam Yates, received the Harold White GPA Award at the Garnet and Black Spring Game. He also earned a spot on the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll last fall.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America Program began in the 1950s to honor student-athletes who excel both in the classroom and in the athletic realm. Capital One became the sponsor of the program in 2011. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a sophomore athletically and academically and have at least a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average.
