Team 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Final
Miami (Ohio) 7 7 3 3 20
South Carolina 0 0 7 0 7

Despite a brilliant individual effort by co-captain Jeff Grantz, the South Carolina Gamecocks lost to Miami (Ohio), 20-7 — marking their third bowl defeat in as many tries. The 1975 Tangerine Bowl was the first for a Jim Carlen coached team. Grantz passed for 228 yards hitting on 18-of-29 passes in the losing cause.

South Carolina took the opening kickoff and marched down the field on a well directed attack by Grantz only to miss a 26-yard field goal.

A short Gamecock punt set Miami up for their initial score, coming on a five-yard run by Carpenter after a 42-yard, seven-play drive. Carpenter scored on another run just prior to the half to give Miami a 14-0 lead and they ran that to 17-0 early in the third quarter.

Grantz’s passing enabled South Carolina to finally get on the scoreboard with 1:41 left in the third quarter. He passed for 60 yards during the 13-play, 73-yard drive. The score came on a three-yard Tom Amrein dive. Marino kicked the extra point.

Miami of Ohio added another field goal midway through the fourth quarter and although the Gamecocks threatened, taking the ball to the Miami five-yard line, that was the end of the scoring.

A record crowd of 20,247 watched the 30th annual Tangerine Bowl game. At that time, the Tangerine Bowl had a capacity of just 18,000.
