Tucson, Ariz. – The South Carolina Gamecocks (39-19) are down to do or die as they fell to the Texas A&M Aggies (37-20) 5-0 at the NCAA Regionals at Tucson, Ariz. Friday afternoon. Starter Stacey Johnson pitched four and a third innings to record the loss for the Gamecocks. Johnson gave up three runs on five hits as she fell to 16-10 for the season. Pitcher Lindsay Wilhelmson improved to 17-7 as she held the Gamecocks to just one hit in the shutout. Nancy Crane recorded the lone hit for Carolina as she hit a bunt single in the first inning.

Texas A&M took a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Selena Collins hit a two-run home run to centerfield. The Aggies added their third run in the second as Cheryl Fowler hit an RBI-single to score Crystal Martin, who was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.

Martin led off the sixth with a solo shot to left field, recording A&M’s second long ball of the game. The home run extended Texas A&M’s lead to 4-0. Fowler drove in her second run of the game as she hit a one-out RBI single to score Jennifer Davis for the second run of the inning and a 5-0 A&M lead.

The Aggies posted five runs on eight hits and recorded three errors. Carolina recorded zero runs on one hit in the loss.

The Gamecocks will turn around and play Cal State Northridge today at 4:30 p.m. (PT) in an elimination game. The loser of the CSN vs. USC game will call it a season.
