The South Carolina Gamecocks worked out for two hours under steamy conditions late Sunday afternoon on the Bluff Road practice fields, as they got back to work after enjoying an off day Saturday.

Head coach Steve Spurrier addressed the media following the workout:

“Just another practice, nothing special today. We worked a little on special teams.”

“We’ll have another scrimmage Tuesday night, then we’ll see where we are as far as redshirting guys. You don’t have to officially announce that. The ones that don’t play will be redshirted.”

On Cade Thompson: “He’s a good passer. He can throw a nice, catchable ball. He just got to learn where everybody’s going. For a true freshman, he’s done very well. There’s a lot of thinking involved and he’s done pretty well. Right now they’d all three play in the first game. That just means I feel they all deserve to play. It’s nothing to do with UCF. They’re all pretty even.”

On his placekickers: “They’re all in a wad – all four of them right now.”

INJURY UPDATE: Dakota Walker has an infection in his left knee and is listed as day-to-day. Wearing the yellow jerseys on Sunday were Michael Flint (broken right hand), Sidney Rice (broken left little finger) and Jared Cook (left foot sprain).

OTHER NOTES: The Gamecocks will practice from 4:15-6:15 on Monday evening, then have a scrimmage scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday in Williams-Brice Stadium. All practices and scrimmages are closed to the public. Coach Spurrier will tape a segment for ESPN’s “PTI” (Pardon the Interruption) on Monday afternoon. It is scheduled to run later in the day on Monday.
