The South Carolina Gamecock football squad worked out for two hours on the Bluff Road practice fields Saturday afternoon, finishing just minutes before a heavy rain fell. Here are head coach Steve Spurrier’s comments following the practice:

“Another average practice – nothing exciting happening. I hope we can play a little more efficiently next Thursday night. We’re not as sharp on offense as I hope we will be, but we still have time to improve.

“Kris Clark may be our best receiver right now. As far as a guy getting open and catching everything in practice, he does it every day.

“(Ryan) Succop will be the kickoff man definitely. I would guess Josh (Brown), being a senior and more experienced is probably the extra point-field goal guy, unless it’s a real long one. Ryan’s got a little longer leg.

“We’re going to try to put on a decent performance. I wish we were a little sharper than we are. We are what we are right now. We’ve got to try to do whatever’s best to win the game. I hope the fans aren’t expecting too much. We’ll see how it plays out.”

Coach Spurrier will hold a press conference on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. The squad will work out from 4:15 – 6:15 p.m. on the practice fields later Sunday afternoon.
