The Toyota Gamecock Village will be open from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm before the home game against the University of Florida this Saturday. Located in the Grandstand at the Fairgrounds, the Village is free and open to the public. Game time is 12:30 pm.
The Gamecock Village will feature a number of special events this week:
-Toyota Legends of the Game:
Heisman Trophy winner George Rogers will be appearing to sign autographs from approximately 10:45-11:45am. All-America offensive guard Del Wilkes will be appearing to sign autographs from 10:30-11:30am.
George Rogers won the Heisman Trophy and was a consensus All-America following his outstanding senior season at Carolina in 1980. He led the nation in rushing that season with 1,894 yards. He still holds numerous career rushing and scoring records for the Gamecocks, including most career yards with 5,204. He is tied for most career touchdowns with 33.
Del Wilkes was chosen as a consensus All-America following his outstanding senior season in 1984. He anchored an offense that set school records for scoring and touchdowns while the team finished 10-2 and ranked as high as #2 in the country during the season. He was also chosen co-MVP of Coach Joe Morrison’s “Black Magic” team.
-The USC Band, cheerleaders, and Cocky will perform at approximately 10:30am inside the Gamecock Village.
-The Carolina men’s and women’s basketball teams will be making appearances inside Gamecock Village from approximately 10:45am-11:45am. They will be available for autographs and photos.
-The Colonial Kids Corner features three large inflatable games for kids.
-Meet WLTX-TV anchorwoman Darci Strickland and pick up your free Gamecock “thundersticks” at the WLTX booth.
-Jewelry Warehouse will have Carolina gear available for purchase and will be giving away American flag car flags in honor of Military Appreciation Day, while supplies last.
