University of South Carolina head football coach Steve Spurrier announced several coaching assignment changes at a press conference held late this afternoon at Williams-Brice Stadium.

“We are not getting rid of anybody,” said Coach Spurrier. “We are reorganizing a bit. I think it will help us and make us a better offense, defense and team. We are readjusting the defensive coaches and we are going to hire a defensive line coach. I believe this gives us a very strong coaching staff.”

Tyrone Nix will remain as the defensive coordinator and will coach the inside linebackers. Last season, Nix was a co-defensive coordinator and worked with the defensive line.

David Reaves has been given the title of Recruiting Coordinator in addition to his duties as assistant quarterbacks coach.

Ron Cooper has been given the additional title of assistant head coach and will move from linebackers coach to secondary coach.

Dave Wommack will switch from the secondary to the outside linebackers.

Fred Chatham will be the special teams coordinator in addition to coaching the tight ends.
