COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina women’s tennis team wrapped up its fall season Sunday in Peach Tree City, Ga., at the SEC Fall Coaches Classic. The Gamecocks claimed one doubles flight and reached the final in another and saw one singles competitor reach the semifinals of her respective bracket.
The duo of Laura Ganzer and Megan McGavock won the B doubles championship by an 8-6 score over the tandem of Sveke-Ulery from Vanderbilt. Carolina’s other tandem of Gira Schofield and Ana Marija Zubori lost 8-6 to Georgia’s Y. Hyndman-Ivanov in the A doubles final.
McGavock had USC’s best showing in singles by reaching the semifinals of the C singles draw. She upended Jil Hasternath of Auburn and Caroline Winebrenner from Kentucky in straight sets before losing 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 to Georgia’s Lara Fakhoury in the semis.
Miranda Gutierrez recovered from her opening-round loss to Hannah Blatt of Vanderbilt in the D singles by winning the consolation bracket. She first defeated Kelly Adams of Auburn in three sets and then downed Sloane Mathis from LSU 6-1, 6-0. In her final match, Gutierrez was a 7-5, 6-4 winner against Kentucky’s Christine Johnston.
