The Regions Charity Classic presented by Bruno’s Supermarkets will host a separate competition for charity called the Wyndham Challenge during the Charter Telephone Pro-am Thursday, May 17. South Carolina’s head football coach Steve Spurrier and Auburn’s head football coach Tommy Tuberville will be paired together to compete for $15,000 to their favorite charity in a stroke play competition.

The Charter Telephone Pro-am will take place on Wednesday, May 16 and Thursday, May 17 during the tournament week at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail Ross Bridge. One Champions Tour professional is paired with four amateurs in a best ball format tournament.

Ever competitive Coach Spurrier suggested the idea of hosting a mini-competition within the pro-am between himself and Coach Tuberville to raise awareness for the tournament’s charitable mission. According to Coach Spurrier, this competition would be for the unofficial title as best golfer among SEC football coaches.

“I always enjoy playing in the Regions Charity Classic and I will look forward to competing against Coach Spurrier at this year’s tournament,” said Coach Tuberville. “This will certainly get my competitive juices flowing.”

Coach Spurrier will be competing to raise money for the South Carolina Coalition against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assualt. It is a coalition of all the domestic violence shelters and rape crisis centers in the state of South Carolina. Coach Tuberville chose StoryBook Farms as his charity of choice. StoryBook Farms is located in Opelika and is an equestrian-based program that offers emotional healing to children who are coping with life threatening diseases, chronic illnesses, disabilities or those that have suffered a loss through horseback riding. This will be Coach Spurrier’s fourth appearance at the Regions Charity Classic and Coach Tuberville’s ninth.
