Aug. 12, 2007

After conducting its first scrimmage of the fall on Saturday, the South Carolina Gamecock football team returned to the Bluff Road practice fields Sunday night for a two-hour workout. The squad dressed in shoulder pads, helmets and shorts. The first two-a-day is slated for Monday, with the team working out at 9:30 a.m. and again at 7:30 p.m.

“We worked on a little special teams play tonight,” said Head Coach Steve Spurrier following the workout. “And a little two minute drill. We’ll practice twice (tomorrow), but I don’t really know how much more you get out of it (than practicing once a day). As long as you meet and walk-through you can get a lot accomplished.”

Joe Hills (right knee sprain) and Jim Hutton (right shoulder sprain) continued to be sidelined, as was Jeremy Burgess (slight concussion). “Burgess got a slight contusion of the brain,” according to Coach Spurrier.

Coach Spurrier indicated the team will scrimmage for part of the practice on Wednesday, but that practice will be closed to the public. “We’ll let them play again Wednesday night. We’ll let the first-team guys go. Next Saturday we’ll have one open to the public.”

Here is the practice schedule for the remainder of the week:
