Former Gamecocks Star in USA vs. the World

Philadelphia, Penn. – South Carolina junior Jason Richardson won his second Penn Relays Championship of America 110m hurdles title in a PACKED field of defending NCAA champions. The men’s 4x400m relay won the college final. The Penn Relays crowd of 49,831 – the second-largest Saturday crowd ever enjoyed the meet. The three day total of 113,982 was the second-best ever and the eighth time in nine years they have drawn 100,000 plus.

Richardson posted a time of 13.68 to win the hurdles. The race included the 2007 NCAA outdoor champion and the 2008 NCAA indoor champion. Richardson already has the top time in the NCAA this year at 13.31.

“The time is not indicative of the qualify of the field. I think it shows me I am managing my fitness,” said Richardson. “The start was slow, the middle I re-adjusted and the last half I ran as fast as I could. I opened up towards the end and finished strong. I am surprised to win any race after the year I had (filled with injuries) last year. I am looking forward to the next few weeks.”

The men’s 4x400m relay won the college final at 3:10.21. The men’s team consisted of Keith Hinnant, Ray Miley, Richardson and Derron Flood.
