Sept. 16, 2008

The University of South Carolina men’s and women’s swimming and diving team released its 2008-09 schedule today, where the Gamecocks will host six events at the Carolina Natatorium, including two opponents that were ranked in the final CSCAA (College Swimming Coaches Association of America) top 25 poll.

South Carolina will open the season on Oct. 17 when the Gamecocks host nationally ranked North Carolina, followed by a home meet against Virginia on Oct. 24. Archrival Clemson travels to Columbia on Oct. 31 before the Gamecocks hit the road, traveling to Gainesville, Fla., to face the nationally ranked Gators on Nov. 8.

South Carolina returns home on Nov. 20 to host the Gamecock Invite before traveling to compete in the OSU Invite and US Short Nationals the weekend of Dec. 4.

The Gamecocks continue their road travels in January, competing in dual-meets against Davidson and Duke on Jan. 10, before returning home to host Vanderbilt’s women’s team and College of Charleston on Jan. 17 and Jan. 24, respectively. South Carolina finishes the regular season in Tuscaloosa with an SEC dual-meet against perennial powerhouse programs, Georgia and Alabama.

After the men placed eighth and the women placed ninth in last year’s SEC championships, the Gamecocks compete in the 2009 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships held in Auburn, Ala., in mid-February.

The Gamecocks have a last chance meet on Feb. 28 before the Women’s NCAA Championships begin on Mar. 19 and the Men’s NCAA Championships kick off on Mar. 26.
