The South Carolina Gamecock football team opened its spring drills on Thursday afternoon at the Bluff Road “Proving Grounds.” The squad, wearing helmets and shorts, worked out for about two hours under spring-like conditions.

“It was just a typical first day of spring ball,” said fifth-year head coach Steve Spurrier.

Coach Spurrier welcomed basketball coaching legend Bob Knight to the practice fields. Cosch Knight addressed the team prior to the practice.

The Gamecocks will take next week off for the University’s spring break, then return to the practice fields on Tuesday, March 17 at 7 p.m. All practices are open to the public.
