July 7, 2010

University of South Carolina offensive guard Terrence Campbell has been granted a sixth year of eligibility from the NCAA, it was announced today. Campbell will be a fifth-year player for the Gamecocks this fall, then will have the opportunity to return for a sixth season in 2011.

Campbell, a 6-3, 283-pounder from Austell, Ga., originally came to Carolina in the fall of 2006. He was given a medical redshirt that season after suffering a season-ending left knee injury early in camp.

Campbell moved from the defensive line to the offensive line as a redshirt freshman in 2007 and appeared in one game. He became a mainstay at the right guard position during the 2008 campaign making nine starts overall.

As a fourth-year player in 2009, Campbell started the first two games before suffering a neck/shoulder stinger that sidelined him for the remainder of the season. He was granted his second medical redshirt following the campaign.

Campbell was able to go through spring drills without any setbacks and is penciled in as the probable starter at right guard entering the fall of 2010.

Campbell becomes the second Gamecock to be granted a sixth-year of eligibility this summer, as linebacker Rodney Paulk received similar news in early June.

The Gamecocks are scheduled to report for fall camp on Monday, August 2, with the first practice scheduled for Tuesday, August 3.
