The South Carolina Gamecocks worked out for two hours Monday night at the Bluff Road practice fields. It was the squad’s first practice since holding a scrimmage on Saturday morning.

“We had a so-so practice tonight,” said Head Coach Steve Spurrier following the practice session. “Not too bad. Nobody got hurt so it was ok. We’re just trying to get ready for Southern Miss. We started talking about them a little bit. We’ll sort of gear in on them probably Wednesday or Thursday.”

Coach Spurrier confirmed that senior tight end Weslye Saunders is not currently with the team. “Weslye wasn’t out here tonight. Weslye has been temporarily suspended for a violation of team rules. His status will be determined at a later date.”

“Guys are hustling. They’re trying,” continued the Head Ball Coach. “There were some good plays here and there. Good plays by the defense – the defense was quick and fast tonight also.”

Jarvis Giles was held out of practice again on Monday with a left shoulder bruise. “Jarvis has got a bum shoulder. He’s banged up, but we have a lot of running backs ready to go. When he gets well he’ll get back in the mix.”

The Gamecocks will return to the practice fields Tuesday afternoon at 4:15 p.m.
