CHARLOTTE, N.C. – South Carolina (8-3) put together 11 hits on the day, including a 3-for-4 outing for sophomore right fielder Hannah Milks, to take a 6-0 win at Charlotte (5-5) on Wednesday afternoon at D.L. Phillips Complex.

Sophomore shortstop Samie Garcia reached base all four times up while going 2-for-3 with her second home run of the year and two runs scored. Senior designated player Laura Mendes also had a two-hit day, going 2-for-2 while driving in two. Junior leftfielder Kaitlin Westfall also had two RBI, and freshman second baseman Dana Hathorn added a double and an RBI.

Pinch runner Jackie Slawson scored the first Gamecock run in the second inning when she raced home from third on Westfall’s sacrifice fly. The score moved to 2-0 when Hathorn connected with a double to right center, scoring junior Lauren Lackey. Both Slawson and Lackey had stolen bases before scoring.

The Gamecocks added two more in the fifth, as Garcia led off the frame with a line shot over the centerfield wall. Mendes made it 4-0 with a sacrifice fly that plated Milks.

Mendes and Westfall both had RBI singles in the seventh to give South Carolina the 6-0 lead.

South Carolina freshman pitcher Julie Sarratt (4-0) picked up the win, allowing just three hits and two walks in six scoreless innings. She struck out five. Senior April Borchardt tossed the seventh, giving up a double while striking out one. Charlotte’s Katy Hackett (4-2) took the loss, giving up six runs, five earned, on 11 hits and two walks. Hackett struck out four.

The Gamecocks host Elon on Saturday at 2 p.m. for a doubleheader at Beckham Field.
