Box Score

COLUMBIA, S.C. – A scrappy South Carolina (16-9, 3-4 SEC) team could not take down No. 1 Georgia (23-1, 5-0 SEC), as the Bulldogs took home a 5-0 win in the nightcap on Wednesday night in front of 543 fans at Beckham Field.

Four Gamecocks all collected one single each, as Bulldog starter Alison Owen (8-0) collected the win. Owen struck out six without walking a batter. Gamecock starter Audrey Broyles (4-2) took the loss, allowing four earned runs on four hits and a walk while striking out two.

South Carolina kept Georgia off the boards for three innings, but the Bulldogs’ Megan Wiggins started the fourth with a blast to right center to start the scoring. An inning later, Taylor Schlopy stepped up with two runners on and knocked a ball over the centerfield fence to make it 4-0. Alisa Goler made it 5-0 in the sixth with her leadoff blast out to right.

The Gamecocks hit the road this weekend for a three-game series at No. 23/24 Auburn. First pitch for Friday’s contest is scheduled for 6 p.m. CDT at Jane B. Moore Field.
