COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina swimming and diving head coach McGee Moody announced his team’s 2012-13 schedule on Thursday, which includes four home meets and four meets with SEC opponents.
The Gamecocks open the season with a tri-meet at home against new SEC member Texas A&M and North Carolina on Oct. 13. Carolina will host Florida on Oct. 26 at the Blatt P.E. Center/Carolina Natatorium before going on three straight road meets to close out the fall schedule.
Carolina travels to Virginia on Nov. 3 and will then head to Charleston for a meet on Nov. 9. The fall season will come to a close with a trip to the Virginia Tech Invitational on Nov. 15-17.
A fourth ACC opponent is on the schedule to open the spring, as Carolina will take on Duke on the road on Jan. 12. The Gamecocks will then host Florida State and Arkansas on Jan. 18. In its final home meet, Carolina will face Charleston, Wingate and Queens in a two-session meet on Jan. 25-26. The Gamecocks will close out the regular season on Feb. 2 against Alabama and Georgia in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Texas A&M will host the 2013 SEC Championships on Feb. 20-23 in College Station, Texas. On March 11-13, Carolina’s qualified divers will head to Knoxville, Tenn., for the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships. The NCAA Women’s Championship is set for March 21-23 at the IU Natatorium and the IUPUI Sports Complex in Indianapolis, Ind., while the NCAA Men’s Championship will be held at the same site on March 28-30.
The Gamecock women are coming off a 7-2 season, which was one of the best records in program history. The winning season gave Carolina back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 1994-95. The Gamecocks advanced to the NCAA Championships and finished 29th. On the men’s side, Carolina went 5-4 to achieve back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 1993-94.
