University of South Carolina senior defensive back D.J. Swearinger was named the SEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced today.

Swearinger, a 6-0, 210-pounder from Greenwood, S.C., totaled a career-best 13 tackles (10 solo), including one for a loss, and added one interception which he returned 69 yards for a touchdown as the 12th-ranked Gamecocks defeated Arkansas, 38-20. Swearinger added one quarterback hurry as South Carolina improved to 8-2, 6-2 in the SEC.

Swearinger shared the award with LSU’s Craig Loston.

The Gamecocks will take on in-state FCS opponent Wofford (8-2, 6-2 Southern) on Saturday, November 17. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia. The Gamecocks are ranked ninth in the latest BCS Standings. They are 12th in the Associated Press poll, 11th in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll and 11th in the Harris poll.
