COACH SPURRIER POST-PRACTICE COMMENTS
March 21, 2013

The University of South Carolina football squad weathered a cool and windy day as they conducted spring practice number four of 15 at the Bluff Road practice fields on Thursday afternoon.

“It was a cold and windy day,” acknowledged head coach Steve Spurrier. “We cut back a little bit. But (sophomore wide receiver) Shaq Roland had the best practice he’s had I think since he’s been a Gamecock. He was catching everything, running full speed.”

The Gamecocks will scrimmage for the first time on Saturday morning. “It won’t be too much this week,” said the Head Ball Coach. “The weather’s not supposed to improve any so we’ll probably wait a week or two later to get in most of the scrimmages. But it will be the young guys going.”

Coach Spurrier confirmed that offensive tackle Cody Gibson would miss the remainder of the spring after injuring his knee. Gibson will have surgery to repair a meniscus tear. He is expected back in the summer.

The Gamecocks will return to the practice fields on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. All spring practices are open to the public.
