WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Sophomore Ximena Siles Luna and freshman Caroline Dailey won singles titles in their respective flights Sunday at the Tribe Invitational in Williamsburg, Va.
Siles Luna surrendered no games in defeating Caryssa Peretz of Virginia. After winning the first set, Peretz withdrew from the match with an injury after Siles Luna jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Siles Luna finished the weekend with an unblemished combined record (6-0) after winning a doubles title with Meghan Blevins on Saturday.
Dailey upended Luisa Garstner Da Rosa from Utah to win her flight. She gave up just one game en route to the 6-0, 6-1 triumph. Dailey suffered just one defeat on the weekend, coming in the semifinals of her doubles contest playing alongside Elixane Lechemia. The duo took third place in their respective flight.
The Gamecocks came up short in the finals of two other singles draws Sunday. Blevins took a 6-3, 6-2 defeat to Cindy Chala of VCU, while Brigit Folland lost 6-3, 6-4 to Shannon Hudson from Arkansas.
Dominika Kanakova registered a win for South Carolina on Sunday. She used three sets to down Wake Forest’s Samantha Asch in the consolation finals of her flight by scores of 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.
South Carolina returns to play next weekend in the Upstate when it participates in the Furman Fall Classic in Greenville, S.C.
