The University of South Carolina football squad returned to the Bluff Road practice fields Tuesday afternoon.

The No. 13/12 Gamecocks are continuing their preparations for Saturday’s SEC Eastern Division matchup in Columbia with the Kentucky Wildcats. The game is set for 7:38 p.m. and will be televised by FSN with Bob Rathbun and Tim Couch in the booth and Elizabeth Moreau working the sidelines. The Gamecocks (3-1, 1-1 SEC) and Wildcats (1-3, 0-1 SEC) will play in front of a sold out Williams-Brice Stadium (80,250).

Senior quarterback Connor Shaw practiced again on Tuesday. Head coach Steve Spurrier said during his Tuesday afternoon press conference that a decision on the starting quarterback would be made by Thursday. Tight end Rory Anderson (back) and center Cody Waldrop (ankle) did not practice on Tuesday.

The Gamecock defense will have to prepare for a two-quarterback system that Kentucky uses. “It’s always tough when you have two guys, one is predominantly a runner and one is a thrower,” said defensive line coach Deke Adams. “It’s tough to do, but we’ve done a good job so far, the guys are focused and I think we’re going to be fine. You change some things up, but you don’t totally change your defense up,” continued Adams. “We’ll do some things that give us a chance to be a little more successful in each phase. We’ll make some tweaks here and there but we won’t totally change everything.”

Much has been said about the play of All-America defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. “I feel like he’s been playing great,” said Adams. “We looked at some of the numbers. I don’t know the exact numbers, but I know people are running away from him a lot. You see him hustling and chasing things down from behind. I think he’s doing a good job. He’s being double-teamed, being triple-teamed. I think he’s playing hard.”

The Gamecocks are scheduled to practice again on Wednesday afternoon.
