CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The South Carolina women’s tennis team opened play in the Kitty Harrison Invitational on Friday in Chapel Hill, N.C.

South Carolina started the day with doubles matches against Elon and William & Mary. The Gamecocks took two of three versus the Phoenix and registered one victory over the Tribe.

Elixane Lechemia and Meghan Blevins beat Jansaker and Johnston from Elon by an 8-7 (7-1) score, while Caroline Dailey and Brigit Folland upended Casey and Camara Ruiz 8-4. Dailey and Folland also won 8-6 versus Casselbury and Roy of William & Mary.

Alex Martin and Natalie Looney suffered an 8-7 (7-4) setback to Khoury and Stavreva from Elon and then fell 8-3 to Farah and Smith from the Tribe. Lechemia and Blevins also lost by an 8-3 score to No. 7-ranked Belaya and Loomans of William & Mary.

In the afternoon, South Carolina tangled with Virginia and snagged one victory over the Cavaliers. Folland defeated Maci Epstein in a three-set super tiebreaker, 6-4, 4-6, (10-4). Martin, however, came out on the wrong end of super tiebreaker to Caryssa Peretz, 6-4, 3-6, (10-8). Li Xi outsed Lechemia 6-3, 6-2, Marie Faure downed Blevins 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, and No. 58 Stephanie Nauta beat Dailey 6-4, 6-2.

Play at the Kitty Harrison Invitational continues Saturday morning.
