South Carolina vs. Vanderbilt Post-Game Notes

GENERAL NOTES

With the 35-25 win over Vanderbilt, the Gamecocks have now won five straight in the series and are 19-4 all-time. South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier now holds a 19-2 career record over the Commodores.
The Gamecocks’ home winning streak now sits at 13-straight games, tying for the second-longest home winning streak in school history. The total ties South Carolina with Georgia for the second-longest streak in Division I football, only behind Michigan’s 16-straight home wins.
Tonight’s game is the highest-scoring contest between the two teams since a 35-28 South Carolina home victory on Oct. 22, 2005. South Carolina’s 35 points are the most in the series since the 2005 conference tilt.

OFFENSIVE NOTES

Tonight’s first-half drives of 93 and 92 yards, marks the first time the Gamecocks have recorded multiple drives of over 90 yards in a game since a 2011 contest against The Citadel. It’s the first occurrence in conference play since a matchup with No. 12 Arkansas in 2006.
The 93-yard drive in the first quarter capped by a four-yard Mike Davis touchdown is the longest since a 94-yard drive against UAB last year.
The 579 yards of total offense and 31 first downs are second only to a 2011 matchup against Kentucky in the Steve Spurrier era when the Gamecocks recorded 639 yards and 32 first downs.
Junior wide receiver Bruce Ellington recorded the third 100-yard receiving game of his career. Ellington brought down eight passes for 111 yards, both career highs.
Sophomore tailback Mike Davis’ 67 receiving yards on three receptions eclipses his career high of 49 set last week at Georgia. His 38-yard reception is longest of his career. Davis also scored a rushing touchdown for the third game in a row.
Sophomore tailback Brandon Wilds had 65 receiving yards on the night, a career high. His 33-yard reception is the longest of his career as well.

DEFENSIVE NOTES

Junior defensive end Jadeveon Clowney’s forced fumble in the third quarter is the ninth of his career.
Senior cornerback Jimmy Legree notched a career-high two tackles for loss. Legree’s fourth-quarter interception is the fourth of his career, and his seven tackles tie a career-high set in last season’s contest against Vanderbilt.
Other defensive career highs – Sophomore linebacker Marcquis Roberts’ seven tackles, senior defensive end Chaz Sutton’s 1.5 sacks. Junior defensive tackle Kelcy Quarles also tied a career high with one sack. Spur linebackers Sharrod Golightly, a junior, and Jordan Diggs, a redshirt freshmen, both recorded a tackle for loss apiece.
