COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina looks to build off of its solid start this weekend as the program sends squads to the Cherry & Silver Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., as well as the Hokie Invitational in Blacksburg, Va.

In New Mexico, South Carolina faces its toughest test of the young season at the Cherry & Silver Invite. Contested at the site of the 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships, the event plays host to six ranked men’s teams (No. 7 Florida State, No. 13 Georgia, No. 15 Texas, No. 17 Arizona, No. 20 Stanford, No. 22 UTEP) and five ranked women’s teams, including the No. 11 Gamecocks (No. 1 Texas, No. 5 Georgia, No. 7 Arkansas, No. 19 Florida State).

The Albuquerque Convention Center sits at 4,958 feet above sea level and will host the first Division I NCAA Championship at statistical altitude March 14-15.

At the Hokie Invitational, the Gamecocks face the No. 19 men’s team in Virginia Tech and the No. 21 Maryland women’s squad. South Carolina traveled to Rector Fieldhouse just last weekend for the Virginia Tech Invitational and brought home four wins and 31 top-five finishes.

The top 16 marks/times for each individual event qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships. For the relay events, the top 12 teams will qualify for the championships.

Women Start Season at No. 11 in USTFCCCA Preseason Rankings
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Preseason Division I National Team Computer Rankings was released Monday with the South Carolina women’s track and field squad at No. 11. The spot is the women’s highest preseason and overall ranking since 2010 when the Gamecocks entered the season at No. 7. The 2010 squad went on to finish 19th at the NCAA Indoor Championships. A nation-leading eight SEC teams are featured in the rankings, with all eight representatives landing in the top 15.
