Dec. 12, 2014

Two University of South Carolina football players were recognized by ESPN.com for their outstanding play during the 2014 season.

Senior offensive guard A.J. Cann was named to ESPN.com’s first-team All-America and first-team All-SEC squads. The website said this about Cann:

“The 6-foot-4, 311-pounder has been one of the SEC’s most consistent offensive linemen for the last four years. Cann has started 50 of South Carolina’s 51 games during his career, which is the second-most starts in South Carolina history. He’s also been a team captain at South Carolina the past two seasons and makes moving opposing linemen look easy with his immense strength. Cann is fit to push both the run and pass game for the Gamecocks and is considered one of the top guard prospects in next year’s NFL draft.”

Sophomore Pharoh Cooper joined Cann on ESPN.com’s first-team All-SEC squad as an all-purpose back. The 5-11, 201-pounder finished the regular season with 1,242 all-purpose yards and was second in the SEC with 966 receiving yards.
