ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The No. 23 South Carolina women’s tennis team scored four victories in singles play against No. 39 USF at the Michigan Invitational on Sunday at the Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Caroline Dailey defeated Olaya Garrido 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, while Brigit Folland upended Olga Martinez in three sets 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 at the No. 3 slot. Ximena Siles Luna scored a 6-1, 6-1 triumph from Juliana Cardoso on court four and Alex Martin beat Laura Argente 7-5, 6-4 at the No. 6 slot.
Natalie Looney fell 1-6, 7-5, 6-4 to Jessica Cortes at No. 5 singles, Hadley Berg lost 6-4, 6-3 to Vera Bessonova at two and Hailey Grillo defeated Alison Mills 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 7 singles.
No. 16 Michigan swept Carolina in doubles play. The Wolverines’ top duo of No. 10 Emina Bektas and Alex Najarian won 6-1 at the top spot over Folland and Berg. No. 35 Ronit Yurovsky and Sarah Lee beat Siles Luna and Dailey 6-2 at two and Mira Ruder-Hook and Annie Wierda won by the same score at three against Looney and Martin.
The Michigan Invitational concludes Monday. South Carolina faces No. 31 Texas Tech in singles at 10 a.m. and then USF in doubles in the afternoon.
