CHAPEL HILL, N.C. ââ’¬” Day Two of the USTA/ITA Carolina Regionals concluded on Friday at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center with three Gamecocks headed to the Round of 16. A pair of Gamecock doubles teams also won, advancing to the Quarterfinal Round.

Junior Brigit Folland claimed a three-set victory in her first match of the event before taking down Clemson’s Daniella Ruiz in the Round of 32. She is set to face Emma Davis from Wake Forest on Saturday with her eyes on the quarterfinals.

Freshmen Ingrid Gamarra Martins and Paige Cline also advanced through the first two rounds with impressive wins. Martins stormed past Andrew Retolaza from Wake Forest, 6-2, 6-3, while Cline pulled out a three-set win over Liza Fieldsend from the College of Charleston to advance. Martins will meet the No. 4 seed, Jessie Aney of North Carolina on Saturday, while Cline squares off with NC State’s Martina Frantova.

Sophomore Hadley Berg and freshmen Ellie Zogg, Hannah Templeton and Rachel Rohrabacher were bounced from the tournament in the first round.

Both Gamecock doubles tandems still alive won on Friday. The fourth-seeded pair of Berg and Folland defeated Sara Bondar and Libby Scott from Coastal Carolina, 8-3, to advance to the quarterfinals, where they will meet NC State’s Martina Frantova and Claudia Wiktorin Saturday. Meanwhile, Martins and Zogg ousted Alice Garcia and Lauren Proctor of Winthrop, 8-2, to reach the quarterfinals, where they will battle Duke’s Rebecca Smaller and Alyssa Smith.
