COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina softball team in 2015-16 had 14 of its students make the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Easton Scholar-Athlete listing, as the organization released its academic awards for the 2015-16 academic year.
Of the 14 Gamecocks named NFCA Easton Scholar-Athletes, 10 return for the 2017 season. Over 5,000 individuals made the listing from all three NCAA divisions, NAIA, junior colleges and high schools. NCAA Division I had the most athletes honored, at 1,240. To earn the accolade, an individual needed a 3.5 grade-point average or higher.
South Carolina had the 32nd best GPA among NCAA Division I teams, posting a team output of 3.451. Last year, that ranking was 21st for a 3.442 cumulative GPA.
The Gamecocks have one fall game remaining on their schedule, a road contest at Coastal Carolina on Oct. 23.
