WILMINGTON, N.C. — Paced by rounds under par from golfers Katelyn Dambaugh, Ainhoa Olarra and Marion Veysseyre, South Carolina posted a second-round 282 (-2) to surge up the leaderboard on day two of the Landfall Tradition Saturday. The No. 19 Gamecocks sit seven strokes off the lead in a tie for second place in the 54-hole event at the Pete Dye Course with a 36-hole mark of 579 (+3).

Dambaugh (T18, +1), one of three Gamecocks in the top 20 at the tournament, fired a 5-under 67 Saturday including six birdies. She opened her round with birdies on two her first three holes before notching three straight on Nos. 6, 7, and 8. The Goose Creek, S.C., native, posted a front-nine 32 (-4) and recorded her final birdie of the afternoon on the par-4 11th.

Olarra will enter Sunday’s final round tie for ninth (143, -1) following her second-round 70 (-2). She turned in a steady performance on day two, notching 16 pars to go along with two birdies. Both of her birdies came on the front nine Saturday, as the San Sebastian, Spain, native recorded one on Nos. 4 and 8.

Veysseyre carded a 1-under 71 in the second round behind 15 pars and two birdies. She notched birdies on Nos. 8 and 13 before closing her round with five-straight pars, and the sophomore will head into Sunday in a tie for 28th at 4-over 148.

Freshman Ana Pelaez, who boasted her first round under par for the Gamecocks on Friday, currently sits in a tie for 28th place (148, +4). The Malaga, Spain, native turned in a 74 (+2) Saturday, totaling 14 pars. Her lone birdie of the day came on the par-5 sixth, and she recorded just one bogey over her final 10 holes.

Anita Uwadia (T53) recorded a 75 (+3) in round two to bring her 36-hole total to 152 (+8). After three double-bogeys and two bogeys on her front nine, the freshman responded with four birdies after the turn to play her final nine holes at 4-under 32. Senior Jia Xin Yang, who is competing as an individual this week, sits in a tie for 38th place (150, +6) following her 74 (+2) on Saturday.

No. 13 Wake Forest sits atop the leaderboard with a two-round total of 572 (-4), while No. 24 Oklahoma is tied with Carolina for second at 3-over 579. Jennifer Kupcho of the Demon Deacons holds the individual lead with a 36-hole total of 139 (-5).

Round Changer

Katelyn Dambaugh notched five birdies on her opening eight holes on the way to a second-round 67 (-5). The senior’s performance marked her eighth round under par this season.
